HILLSIDE
Scott & Katy have a lovely grade II listed house north of Bristol. The kitchen and dining space is dual aspect and there used to be a dilapidated conservatory between the kitchen and the back garden. Our brief was to replace this with a flexible family room.
We opted for a contemporary and simple gabled form to reference the shape of the main house. The glazed gable opens onto the patio and the garden steps up to the side, to the level of the long window cill.
The extension is carefully crafted with a clear and simple expression of the components – the CNC cut birch plywood frames, the insulation layer (the white layer), the Welsh thermally modified ash cladding and the glazed gable.
Scott & Katy had huge input – particularly on the interior and the built in furniture – an example of the process working excellently.
We feel very lucky to have found Gambles Architects for our project. Their innovation, tactful approach and tenacity is what drove the construction to produce such an amazing and detailed piece of architecture. Thanks to their insight and communication the finished design is more than we could have wished for and importantly they are a real pleasure to work with.
